SPECIAL BOND PROPOSITION
March, 2004
To the Residents of the Yorktown Central School District:
On Tuesday, March 30, 2004, the Board of Education
will ask you to cast your vote on a $2,400,000 bond for a capital
improvement project to finance new roofs at Mohansic, Brookside,
and Crompond Schools.
As has been reported at Board of Education business
meetings and in our local newspapers, the architects have found
that the roofs at these buildings have deteriorated. The bond
will cover architectural fees, construction costs, construction
management oversight, financing, and legal fees. On the advice
of our architect, this referendum contains a 10% project contingency
fund. New York State Building Aid for this project is anticipated
to be 50% and applies to the actual roofing work and the cost
of interest.
With your approval, this project will commence this summer when
students are on break. With the completion of this work, all
schools in the district will have new roofs that will protect
the infrastructure of our buildings for many years.
Additionally, on March 30, 2004, you will be asked
to vote on a $500,000 Capital Reserve Fund. The creation of
this new fund will allow the district to flexibly address emerging
capital repair projects.
Please visit the district web site for more information. The
board and the administration fully anticipate that we will seek
your approval for another larger capital improvement referendum
this fall. If you have questions about this and possible future
projects, please contact the office of the Superintendent or
members of the Board of Education.
Sincerely,
Gordon Bruno
Superintendent of School
