Hannah Z.

Title:  The Dog That Pitched a No Hitter

Author:  Matt Christopher

      Do you know what if feels like to be a baseball player with a dog dancing behind you and you can’t win one game?  The characters were Mike and Harry.  Harry was a dog!  I like Harry because I have three dogs. 

     When Mike went to his baseball game it reminded me of when I went to my brother’s games and saw a lot of dogs. 

     I like this book because I love dogs and I like to play baseball.  The funny part was when Harry the dog did a crazy dance called the Bunny Hop.  I would recommend this book to people who like dancing dogs and baseball!

Title:  Green Eggs and Ham

Author:  Dr. Seuss

     Do you like green eggs and ham? 

     The main character was Sam.  Sam did not like the food people were giving him.  He did not want green eggs and ham.  He wouldn’t eat it in a box or eat them anywhere.  I didn’t think I would like potatoes.  My mom made me try them and I liked them!  This is what happened with Sam.

     I liked this book.  My favorite part was when Sam ate the green eggs and ham at the end of the story.

     I would tell other kids to read this book.  It is a great book for kids who like funny books.

 

Aidan

Title:  The Boy of Steel

Author:  Ray Negron

      Do you know the book “The Boy of Steel”?  You have to read it!  The main characters are Michael, Robert, Ray and Michael’s mom and dad.  It was about a kid in the hospital that has cancer.  He loves the Yankees and his dad promises to take him to the Yankee game.  But, the problem was that they had so may things going on they had trouble getting to the game.  I felt just the main character.  He felt that he had to go to a baseball game and I felt that too. 

     I loved the book because it was about baseball.  I love baseball!  My favorite part in the book was when Michael stayed up to watch the baseball game.  It reminded me of when I watched the baseball game with my dad.

     I would recommend this book for everyone.  It is a wonderful book.  People who love baseball should read this book.

 

 

Jake

Title:  The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse

Author:  Bruce Hale

     Do you like mysteries?  This is a mystery about a chameleon that disappears.  The main characters are Chet Gecko, Natalie and Shirley. My favorite character is Chet Gecko because he’s the detective.  They run into one problem where they’re tied up on a diving board.

     Just like the story, I’ve been on a diving board, too.  Chet Gecko felt a little scared because he was tied up on it.

     I liked the book because in the beginning they don’t have a clue about the mystery and in the end, well, I’m not telling you.  My favorite part is when Chet loses his tail!  There is not a single part that I didn’t like.

     Anybody who likes mysteries should read this book, but it’s mostly for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders, I think.

 Title:  Spider Storch’s Teacher Torture

Author:  Gina Willner-Pardo

      Did you ever have a teacher who you really liked?  Well, if you did this would be a great book for you.  It’s about this kid who really liked his teacher.  The bad thing was that his teacher was retiring!

     My favorite character was the teacher because she made up a rap.  This is the rap—“Eight times four equals thirty-two.  You hear what I’m sayin’, ‘cause I’m telling you.  Eight times five equals forty I say.  It will tomorrow and does today.”

     The book reminds me of kindergarten when the year was over.  My teacher’s name was Mr. Owens.  I didn’t want kindergarten to end.

     I liked this book because it was very funny and there’s a surprise at the end.

     I would recommend this book for people who like funny stories and like being funny.

 Title:  Junie B. First Grade Toothless Wonder

Author:  Barbara Park

      The story was about Junie B. Jones losing a tooth.  Junie B. Jones was the main character.  Junie B. Jones did not want to lose her tooth.  My favorite character was Junie B. Jones because she is funny.

     When Junie B. Jones lost her tooth it reminded me of when I lost my tooth.

     I liked the book.  My favorite part of the book was when she was scared to lose her tooth.  I do not have a least favorite part.

     I would recommend this book for anyone who likes funny stories.

 Title:  Sunset of the Sabertooth

Author:  Mary Pope Osborne

      Jack and his sister, Annie, go on an adventure back in time to the Ice Age.  They make friends with a woolly mammoth.  Suddenly there is a sabertooth on a mountain.  Do you think Jack and Annie will get eaten?

     My favorite character is Jack because he thinks of great ideas.

     I like adventures just like Jack and Annie do.  Also, they see big creatures like a sabertooth.  I see little creatures like a spider.  It reminds me of when my dad and I go in the woods.

     I like this book because they do very mysterious things.  My favorite part of the story was when they are friends with the buffalo.

     I would recommend this book to people who like adventure books.

 

Samantha

 Title:  Oliver Pig at School

Author:  Jean van Leeuwen

      When Oliver Pig woke up he got ready for this first day of school.  Oliver went downstairs for breakfast.  When Oliver went to school he played.  When his teacher read a book a boy kicked him.  Could they become friends?

     My favorite characters are Oliver and Bernard because they become friends.

     When Oliver’s teacher read a book, it reminds me of my teacher reading a book.

     My favorite part of the book was when Oliver made a friend and a ring.  I would recommend this book for people who like friendship stories.

 

Amanta

Title:  Emma’s Magic Winter

Author:  Jean Little

     This story is about a girl named Emma who goes to school.  When Emma went to school her teacher asked Emma to read out loud for the class.  The characters are Emma and her teacher, Mr. Kent, and Josh and Sally and mom.

     My favorite characters are Emma and Sally because they have the same shoes and they are magical.

     I did the same thing as the characters.  Emma and Sally were building a snowman and it reminded me when my neighbor and I built a snowman.

     I loved the part when Emma met Sally.  I liked it because when Emma comes in she has to Sally, “I have the same shoes as you.”

     I would recommend this book to people who like winter.

Title:  Junie B. Jones Smells Something Fishy

Author:  Barbara Park

      When I tell you about this book, Junie B. Jones, I am not going to tell you too much.  When Junie B. Jones went to school her teacher told her about pet day.  But she said no dogs and cats are allowed.

     Junie B. Jones was my favorite because I like to solve problems.

     Junie B. Jones didn’t have a goldfish.  She only had a cat.  That makes me think of when I was in first grade I only had a dog.  So I brought a picture of him to school.

     I like this book because I like to solve mysteries.  My favorite part is when Junie B. Jones got a goldfish.

     I recommend this book to other people who like Junie B. Jones.

 Title:  Ricky Ricotta’s Giant Robot

Author:  Dav Pilkey

      Do you know what it feels like to have a giant robot as a pet?  The story is about a boy that is a mouse.  He had no friends at first.  Finally he got a friend.  It was a giant robot!

     The main characters were Ricky (that was the boy) and the giant robot.  The main characters did not get in any problems.

     My favorite character was the giant robot because he could fly.  I have a connection.  It is when Ricky got a friend.  It reminds me of when I got a friend.

     I love the book; it was very cool.  My favorite part is when Ricky’s family had dinner outside and Ricky’s giant robot made dinner.  I did not have a least favorite part.

     I would recommend this book to other people.  People who like funny books would like it.

 

Maryam

 Title:  The Pony and the Haunted Barn

Author:  Jeanne Betancourt

      The main characters are Pam, Anna, LuLu, and Thomas Warner.  The story was about a haunted barn.  They got in a problem when they were locked inside the haunted barn.

     My favorite character is Pam because she is smart.

     When the Pony pals got locked in the barn it reminded me of when I got locked in a room.

     I liked the book because it is spooky and I like spooky books.  My favorite part of the book is when Pam touched the horseshoe and it was hot.

     I would recommend this book to people who like books that have horses and spooky parts.

 

Michael K.

 Title:  All-Star Fever

Author:  Matt Christopher

     Do you know what it feels like to make the All-Star team?  Well, if you don’t, go out and read “All-Star Fever”!

     I like Bus.  He sometimes gets into trouble.  He sometimes disobeys his mom and dad.  They try to teach him a lesson.  But what?

     Once I fell off my bike like Bus.  I play baseball like Bus.  I sometimes get frustrated like Bus.  Bus and I don’t always get the ball.  Bus and I are really alike.

     I liked the book because I love to play baseball!  My favorite part of the book is when Bus is speeding down the hill.  It was so funny!

     I don’t have a least favorite part of the story.  I would recommend this for people that like baseball.

     Now, go out there and read about Bus’s adventure!  Sometimes he loses and sometimes he wins games.  I can’t tell you, just read this book!

 Title:  Mystery of the Tooth Gremlin

Author:  Bonnie Graves

      This story is about a boy wondering what it will be like losing a tooth. The characters are Jesse, Auntie Lucy, mom, and dad.

     Auntie Lucy had a problem because Jesse screamed at school and he went to the principal.

     My favorite character is Auntie Lucy because she is old enough to go to parties.

     When I was a little girl I wondered what it would be like to lose a tooth, too.  When Jesse lost the tooth, he was excited like I was.

     I did like the book because it was funny.  My favorite part of the book was when Jesse lost his tooth when eating an apple.  I would recommend this book to any person.  If somebody has lost a tooth they should read this book.

 

Emily

 Title:   Don’t Be My Valentine

Author:  Joan M. Lexau

      Sam and Amy Lou always get into a fight.  They get in a fight because Amy Lou always asks him, “Do you need any help?”

     You might like Sam or Amy Lou or Albert.  But my favorite character was Sam because he wrote a funny poem.

     This book reminds me of when my brothers or sister keep on talking to me and never are quiet.  That’s what happened in the book when Amy Lou never stops saying, “Do you need any help?”

     I like this book because I think it’s funny.  My favorite part was when he wrote a poem and it said that Amy Lou looks like a moose.

     I would recommend this book to people who are bored and need a good laugh.

Title:  Season of the Sandstorms

Author:  Mary Pope Osborne

     Did you ever read any Jack and Annie books before?  This is a story about Jack and Annie going to Egypt.  They have a problem. They have to find a home.  They have to go through the sandstorm!

     One of my favorite parts is when they go in the tree house.  In an instant, it takes them to Egypt.  Another favorite part of the book is when they got home.  My favorite character is Jack, because Jack is very smart!

     I had a text to self connection when Jack and Annie went into the sandstorm.  That reminded me of when I skied in a blizzard down a hill. 

     I liked the book because it was very cool to learn about Egypt.  I would recommend the book to people who like to learn about Egypt in the past.

   

 

Olivia

 Title:  Chester

Author:  Syd Hoff

      A horse named Chester wanted an owner so he could be loved and cared for.  He goes to different places and tries to find an owner.  My favorite character was Chester, because he was very silly and funny. 

      Chester helped the firemen because the engine wasn’t working; he pulled the fire truck.  It reminds me of when it was snowing and I helped my sister with the sled.

     I like the book because I like horses and because it is very funny.  Chester pretends to be a merry-go-round horse!

     I recommend this book for 2nd graders and for people who like horses.

    

 

Marc

 Title:  Dinosaurs Before Dark

Author:  Mary Pope Osborne

      Did you ever see a dinosaur?  No?  Well, if you have never seen a dinosaur, this book would be perfect for you.  It’s an amazing story!  This is how it starts:  first, Jack and Annie were going into the tree house and they wished that they could go in the book.  I’m not going to tell you the rest, but if you want to know more, get reading!

     Jack was my favorite character because he did a lot of cool things.  He rode on the pterodactyl, too!

     I have been in a tree house before, like Jack and Annie.  As a matter of fact, I have a tree house in my backyard.  That was the only thing I did that Jack and Annie had done.  I mean – who could travel back in time from a book? 

     My favorite part of the story was when Jack ran to get his notebook and there was a dinosaur pretty close to him.  I did not have a least favorite part of Dinosaurs Before Dark, so that means you should get reading!

     I loved this book.  I would recommend this to people who like magic tree house books and dinosaurs.

 Title:  Nate the Great and the Snowy Trail

Author:  Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

     Do you know how it feels to have a mystery while it is snowing?  I will tell you about a story.  The characters are Nate the great and Rosamond.  The story takes place outside.  Nate the great was my favorite character because he is a detective.  Nate had to solve a mystery when Rosamond lost a cat for Nate.

     When Nate gave up it reminded me of when I gave up looking for my watch when I lost it.

     My favorite part is when Nate was making himself and his dog Sludge as snow people.

     I recommend this book to people who like mysteries!

 

Jacob

Title:  Danny and the Dinosaur

Author:  Syd Hoff

      Do you know what it is like to have a dinosaur as a friend?  One day a boy named Danny goes to a museum and a dinosaur says, “Hi”.  The dinosaur is very friendly and lets him ride on him.  They go into the city.

     When Danny shows all of his friends the dinosaur it reminds me of when people on my bus see my dog Zeus.

     I like the book because the pictures are silly.  I would recommend this book to people that read easy chapter books and people that like dinosaurs.

 

Brett

 Title:  Cam Jansen and the Ice Skate Mystery

Author:  David Adler

      Cam and Eric are best friends.  They solve mysteries.  This one’s hard!  They lose their locker key at the skating rink.  Could you help Eric and Cam solve the mystery of the missing key? They are having trouble with this mystery!

     I have a text to self connection.  When they lost the locker key, it reminded me of when I lost my baseball mitt.  But I found it, just like Cam and Eric.

     I love this book because mystery books are my favorite.  My favorite part was when Cam said “Click!” and remembered when Eric lost the key.

     I will recommend this book for people who like mystery book and funny books.

 

 

Hannah B.

Title:  Junie B., First Grader Shipwrecked

Author:  Barbara Park

     Junie B., First Grader Shipwrecked is about a first grader named Junie B.  Her class was doing a Columbus play for parent’s night.  Her teachers gave her a sheet of paper to write all the facts she can find out.  She tried to find out the most facts because the person who finds out the most facts gets to choose their part first.  When Junie B. did the Columbus play it reminded me of when I did a Christmas play at CCD. 

     My favorite part was when Junie B. was in the play pretending to be a ship.  I also liked when Junie B. made her costume.  She worked hard at it. 

     I recommend this book for first graders and up.

 

Sam C.

Title:  Soccer Cats

Author:  Matt Christopher

     The main character was Tedd Gaddy.  There was a team named the Cats.  My favorite character was Ted Gaddy.  The Cats were going against a team.  The Cats missed the winning shot, so they lost. 

     I play soccer and I miss sometimes, but I do not care at all.  Sometimes I score and I really, really like when that happens!  When Ted missed the last champion goal it reminds me of my first soccer miss.

     I like the book because it was about soccer and I like soccer.  My favorite part was when the goalie fell and the player blocked the ball with his chest.  I do not have a part that I do not like…I just love soccer!

     I would recommend this book to people who like soccer books.  I think athletes would like this book.
