What is the Husker Club?
The Yorktown Huskers Sports Club, Inc. ("The Huskers") is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation comprised of parents and other supporters of the student-athletes and the athletic programs of Yorktown High School. The Huskers Club supports all sports teams of Yorktown High School, not any one specific sport. The club currently has over 200 families as members. It operates with a board of four directors (all elected officers) and meets once a month at Yorktown High School.
The purpose of the club is to provide support to the student-athletes of Yorktown High School in several forms. First, The Huskers award $2,500 in scholarships each year to deserving student-athletes who are continuing their education after high school. The club hosts an Senior Annual Sports Award Dinner and awards each graduating senior a plaque commemorating their athletic participation at Yorktown H.S. The club also provides financial support to the athletic programs as needed. In an era of constrained school budgets, The Huskers have purchased items for the various teams including wrestling mats, lacrosse goals, swimming platforms, football sleds, video taping equipment, pitching machines, and other necessary equipment when budgeted funds were not available.
Another key purpose of The Huskers is to promote good sportsmanship and the benefits of participating in athletics. High school sports provide a healthy and wholesome activity for our students and The Huskers believe that it is important to do whatever is necessary to provide resources for these key activities. We believe that sports teach valuable life lessons for teenagers and we will support these activities vigorously.
Funds are raised by The Huskers through various means including sales of its Sports Journal, membership dues, running the concession stand at athletic events and other fund raising events. All parents of athletes and supporters of Yorktown High School sports are urged to join the Huskers Club.
