A book with one author:

   Format: Author’s last name, first and middle.  Book Title. City of Publication: Publisher, copyright date.

 

   Example: Teale, Edwin Arthur. The Golden Throng.  New York:  Dodd, Mead and Company, 1981.

 

A book with two or more authors:

   Format: Author’s last name, first and author’s first name and last name. Book Title. City of Publication: Publisher, copyright date.

 

   Example: Brookway, William, and Herbert Jones.  The World of Opera.  New York: Pantheon Books, 1992.

 

A book with editors, no author:

  Format: Editor’s Name(s). Book Title. City of Publication: Publisher, copyright date.

 

   Example:  Williams, Mary E., ed.  The Death Penalty: Opposing Viewpoints. San Diego: Greenhaven, 2002.

 

An article in a periodical (such as a newspaper or magazine):

  Format: Author(s) last name, first name.  “Title of the Article.” Title of Periodical  Day Month Year: pages.

 

   Example: Poniewozik, James.  “TV Makes a Too-Close Call.”  Time  20 Nov. 2000:20-21.

 

Periodical with no author given:

  Format: “Title of the Article.” Title of Periodical  Day Month Year: pages.

 

  Example:  “New Life on the River.” Time  4 Jan. 1993:62.

 

An article from an encyclopedia or reference book:

   Format: Author’s last name, first. “Title of section.” Name of Encyclopedia or Reference Book. Edition year ed.

 

   Example: Smith, Fred. “Jamaica.” World Book Encyclopedia. 2002 ed.

 

 

Personal Interviews

 

An interview that you conducted:

   Format:  Person’s last name, first name. Personal Interview. Day Month Year.
