YCSD Budget Vote & Trustee Election Results
April 2026
Dear Yorktown School Community,
Each year we engage in a comprehensive budget development process to ensure that we can fully and appropriately meet the needs of our students while demonstrating a genuine effort to limit the impact to the tax levy. Year after year, we have been able to build upon our robust academic and extra-classroom offerings while also maintaining one of the lowest average tax levy increases in the region. In fact, over the last nine years, we have the 4th lowest average tax levy increase in all of Westchester and Putnam Counties.
We believe that we have once again been able to develop a budget that provides students the excellent educational opportunities that have become synonymous with the Yorktown School District while limiting the increase to the tax levy. Most notably, the 2026–27 school budget provides:
Current programs remain intact (including UPK)
Class sizes will be maintained at/below BOE guidelines;
FlexPath Program at YHS goes from 18 to 14 seats to better meet student needs;
1.0 FTE Social Worker for YHS
1.0 FTE Psychologist for Crompond
1.0 FTE District-wide Tech Support
Additional 4th grade section for Crompond
Boys Volleyball Assistant Coach
Contingency teaching positions for unanticipated student needs and/or enrollment growth
After-school care program at K-5 schools (potential reduction to transportation budget)
Potential new courses include: AP Cybersecurity, AP Business and Personal Finance, Intro to AI, AI and Science Fiction, Historical Inquiry and Innovation, Digital Media Production, Intro to Piano, and Theater Arts & Drama.
We deeply and sincerely believe the proposed 2.38% tax levy increase demonstrates a continued sensitivity to taxpayers while providing our students with the best possible educational experience. The budget-to-budget increase is 2.88%, and the proposed budget is within the allowable tax levy cap.
Based on current estimates, this results in:
An estimated 2.11% tax rate increase for the Town of Yorktown (which comprises over 96% of our tax base);
An estimated 6.90% tax rate decrease for New Castle; and
An estimated 9.98% tax rate decrease for Cortlandt.
It is important to note that these estimated tax rate changes are driven by state equalization rates, and are not set by the District.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Board and our administrative team for their effort in developing the 2026–27 budget. The budget vote and trustee election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. in the French Hill School. As always, we thank you for your incredible support of the excellent work happening in the Yorktown Central School District.
Respectfully,
Dr. Ron Hattar, Superintendent of Schools
Ms. Lisa Rolle, YCSD Board of Education President
